Activate SQL Server 2016 – Step-by-Step Guide

Follow these steps to install and activate SQL Server 2016:

Step 1: Download SQL Server 2016

Open the Microsoft download link above and choose the appropriate installer or ISO for your system. You may need to sign in with a Microsoft account.

Step 2: Run the Installer

Launch the installer (run as administrator). The SQL Server Installation Center wizard will open.

Step 3: Choose Installation Type

Select "New SQL Server stand-alone installation" or another appropriate option based on your needs.

Step 4: Enter Product Key

Enter your SQL Server 2016 product key when prompted to activate the licensed version.
If you are using the evaluation edition, you can install first and enter your key later.

Step 5: Configure Features & Finish

Follow the setup screens to select features, configure server settings, and complete the installation. Once finished, restart if required.

Important Notes

- SQL Server 2016 includes evaluation for 180 days that you can use before entering a license key.
- Choose the edition that fits your business needs (Standard, Enterprise, Express).

Activation Check

After installation, open SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and verify your edition and activation status in the Help → About section.
