Before installing any antivirus product, one rule applies universally: remove your current antivirus first. Running two antivirus programs simultaneously causes conflicts, performance issues, and in some cases prevents either from functioning correctly. Use the official removal tool from your current provider before proceeding.

Installing Kaspersky on Windows

1. Download the installer from the official Kaspersky website (kaspersky.com/downloads). Do not use third-party download sites.
2. Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
3. Accept the license agreement and follow the installation steps.
4. Wait for installation to complete — typically 3 to 5 minutes.
5. Restart your computer when prompted.
6. After restart, open Kaspersky and enter your activation code when asked.

Installing McAfee on Windows

1. Download McAfee from your account at account.mcafee.com or from the link in your order confirmation.
2. Run the downloaded file as Administrator.
3. Sign in with your McAfee account or create one when prompted — McAfee ties licenses to accounts, not just keys.
4. The installer will download additional components. Keep your internet connection active.
5. Restart when prompted.

General Tips for All Antivirus Products

Always download from the official publisher's website. After purchasing a license from MCAKey, you receive the key — download the software directly from the publisher to ensure you get the latest version compatible with your system.

Windows 11 users: Check the publisher's compatibility page before downloading. Both Kaspersky and McAfee maintain updated Windows 11 compatible builds.

32-bit vs 64-bit: Download the correct version for your system. To check: Settings → System → About → System type.

Activation Help

How to Activate Kaspersky

1. Open Kaspersky after installation.
2. Click the profile icon or go to License in the left menu.
3. Select Enter activation code.
4. Type your 20-character code exactly as provided — no spaces needed, Kaspersky adds them automatically.
5. Click Activate. The process takes a few seconds and requires an active internet connection.

If activation is rejected: double-check you are entering the code correctly. If the error says the code has already been used, contact MCAKey support within 7 days of purchase and we will resolve it.

How to Activate McAfee

1. Go to account.mcafee.com and sign in or create an account.
2. Click Add a device or Redeem a code.
3. Enter your product key.
4. Follow the prompts to download and install McAfee on the device you want to protect.

If your key is already linked to another account, contact MCAKey support — we will verify and resolve it.

My Activation Key Does Not Work

The most common reasons an antivirus key fails to activate:

• Typing error — copy-paste from your email rather than typing manually.
• Regional mismatch — some keys are region-specific. Contact us if you suspect this.
• Already activated — if the key was used before you received it, that is our responsibility. Report it within 7 days with your order number.
• Expired key — keys from MCAKey are current and valid. If you see an expired error, contact support immediately.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Antivirus Is Slowing Down My Computer

All real-time antivirus products use system resources — this is expected. Excessive slowdown usually has a fixable cause: a scheduled scan running in the background, outdated virus definitions, missing exclusions for development tools or virtual machines, or a conflict with another security tool running simultaneously.

Check if Windows Defender is still active alongside your third-party antivirus. Kaspersky and McAfee both handle this automatically but occasionally a manual check is needed via Windows Security settings.

Antivirus Is Blocking Software I Trust

Real-time protection sometimes flags legitimate software. To whitelist an application:

In Kaspersky: Settings → Security → Threats and Exclusions → Add Exclusion → specify the file or folder.

In McAfee: Protection → Real-Time Scanning → Excluded Files → Add file or folder.

Only exclude applications you are certain are safe.

Antivirus Is Not Updating

Without current virus definitions, protection degrades quickly. If automatic updates are failing: check your internet connection, verify your license is still active, try forcing a manual update from within the application, or temporarily disable your firewall and trigger the update manually. If none of these work, reinstall with a fresh download from the publisher.

For error codes not covered here, search directly on the publisher's support site: support.kaspersky.com or support.mcafee.com. If the error appears related to the key itself and you purchased from MCAKey, contact our support team with your order number and the exact error message.
